Kristal is one of the most versatile musicians of her generation, having studied at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and Trinity Laban Conservatoire London, she became Co-Principal Clarinet of Southbank Sinfonia in 2009. She has since gone on to perform with some of the country’s leading orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, City of London Sinfonia, English National Ballet and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. She has also given chamber music recitals at the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
In 2014, Kristal made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall in the BBC Proms and in 2017 performed there again as a wind soloist alongside Nigel Kennedy. She now performs there frequently with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
As well as monthly BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, Kristal regularly records in sessions at Abbey Road, Maida Vale and Angel Studios. She is the solo clarinettist for the BBC One drama ‘Call the Midwife’ and features on the show’s 2018 soundtrack album. She can also be seen playing her Clarinet on the most recent Money Supermarket advert with Dame Judi Dench.
Kristal also doubles on Flute and Sax and has performed in West End shows including Miss Saigon, Love Never Dies, and Wizard of Oz, and has toured the UK & Ireland with Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Barnum and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
As well as performing, Kristal has a real love of inspiring the next generation. Having previously taught at Hindhead Music Centre, The Hall School Wimbledon, Epsom College and Shiplake College, she now teaches Clarinet both privately and at Christ’s Hospital School in West Sussex, a position she has held since 2018.
